A Brief Guide To Event Photography

By Tanya Hanes

Event photography has always been an attractive career for the creatively inclined. In numerous events, like sports meets, weddings, and even business events, the event photographer is given an appealing remuneration for using his talent. People want to treasure such events and look back at them fondly through the photographs, which is why event photography is so important.

Event photography is a great option for all those professional photographers who are properly trained. However, to become an expert there are some points that must be kept in mind.

The first aspect to be considered is the event you are photographing and the final use of the photos. Take a corporate event as an example, the pictures of the event could be printed in an internal magazine of the firm, and thus, your objective must be to point out the manner and order of the proceedings of the event in your photographs. But, if you are photographing a private get together, then it would be recommended to give attention to the people present, and capture their faces.

Attentiveness is an important factor in event photography. You must be fully attentive to the happenings during the event and should be conscious of when to click pictures. Employers also prefer hiring photographers who comprehend what is happening around them and do not need to be constantly told about when to click a picture. This is something which you can cultivate only with time but you must continue making attempts to acquire this talent.

Familiarity with the site where the event is being held is useful in event photography. You must be aware of the spots where the most important parts of the event are going to take place and the perfect locations that would allow you to click good photographs of the event.

In terms of technical aspects, always make sure that you are familiar with your camera and all its features, so that you can quickly click photographs from difficult angles and not miss key moments. Lighting is critical for taking good photographs and to take good pictures, the event photographer must be conscious of how much of it will be available at the time of the event. On the basis of this understanding, you should be forearmed with proper equipment and with the camera in the right mode.

Lastly, as an event photographer, you must be of a pleasant temperament. You must be able to make friends with the group you are photographing. Once you become friends with the subjects and get a feel of the spirit of the event, the photos are going to be of better quality.
