Why Should You Own an Archos 705 WiFi 160gb?

Portable gadgets have anyway become popular. With the expanding coverage of WiFi (wireless Internet access), portable gadgets have become even more popular. Portable gadgets include laptops, portable media players, netbooks or the Ultra Mobile PC. It has become easy to download content from the Internet. Conversion to digital formats, for instance DVD or VCD movies, has become easy with special software. The portable devices have become not only travel companions, but also a part of the work and day to day functions. The portable devices include digital audio players, portable video players, digital video recorders and personal digital assistant.

The portable media player is also an electronic gadget that plays digital media which it stores. Basically it is a portable audio player with the added facility of displaying images and playing videos. Mobile phones which can also store and play audio files, and display images and play videos are also categorized as portable media player. Archos, a portable media player, was the first one of its kind to be successfully marketed in 2002. Most of the portable media players have MP3 audio format while some also support other formats such as WAV, Windows Media Audio (WMA) and Advanced Audio Coding (AAC).

Normally images are displayed with LCD or OELD screen. Video recording can be done with some of these players with the use of accessories. All the players invariably use JPEG format for display of images. Some players such as iPod series are compatible with file formats as GIF, TIFF and PNG. Most of the players also support MPEG-4 video format. There are some which support AVI and WMV (Windows Media Video). Most players enable transfer of files between players and computers. Many electronic firms manufacture and market various models of portable digital players. For instance, Archos, a French company, manufactures portable video players, personal digital assistant, digital audio players and digital video recorders. Generation 5 series of portable media players was released by Archos in 2007 and this included 160gb Archos 705.

The hard drive, flash memory or microdrive is used to store the data. There has been a steady increase in the storage capacity going up to 320 GB in the case of the hard drive PMPs and up to 32 GB for the flash memory based PMPs. The storage capacity of PMPs can also be enhanced. Content transfer can be done using Secure Digital card, CompactFlash and Memory Sticks directly from external devices. The screen size of the display screen has risen to 7 inches. Resolutions vary from player to player and may go up to WVGA. The color depth ranges from 16-bit, which is normal, to 24-bit in some players. After the launch of the Touch Screen technology, many PMPs have integrated this feature into their players. Even more new features were integrated into the PMPs in the recent past such as the editors, game emulation, the simple camera and text readers.

Media players have evolved. Before, watching movies was done at theaters or at home but PMPs have greatly changed this situation.
