The Reason Why Underwater Photographers Adore Nuweiba

By Rob Atherton

Nuweiba is a relaxing, remote location in the Northern Sinai and this tucked away gem is without doubt one of the optimum spots in Egypt for underwater photography. The location is nowhere near as commercialised as Sharm which is 100 miles south along the coast. Therefore, this means a lot fewer divers to disturb the sea life.

In the north of the Gulf of Aqaba, the water is much more calm beneath the surface and combined with the crystal clear waters, marine photography enthusiasts could hardly want better conditions. The house reef at the Nuweiba Hilton is a fantastic place for marine photography courses. You will find there's an amazing assortment of marine life with small pipefish and cuttlefish discovered in the shallow water while a little deeper, a good amount of vivid fish and coral formations are found. The pier offers a number of outstanding photo possibilities.

Probably the fish Nuweiba is well known for is the frogfish. Even though it is found in other locations in Egypt, Nuweiba a bit of a hotspot for this evasive little creature. Needless to say, there is no guarantee you will find a frogfish but you can find shrimp, seahorse and octopus in the area consequently you might get fortunate and discover them as well.

The best thing is the fact all this is practically within walking distance from your room at the Hilton therefore if a keen photographer is on holiday with the family, they aren't deserted throughout the day, just for the hour of the dive. Scuba divers can head underwater in the morning, join the family for lunch before going to the sea once again.

Underwater photographers are often really eager to take pics on land and the surroundings in the vicinity of Nuweiba is wonderful. Across the sea lies Saudi Arabia and the mountains of the Sinai provide an excellent backdrop. It's certainly worth taking an excursion to Mount Sinai or the Coloured Canyon since the scenery is amazing. It is hard to imagine a desert may well be so eye-catching.
