Up Close and Personal with the Dell Streak 7 Wi-Fi Tablet

By Peter Chance

Those who possessed laptops initially gave the iPad a lukewarm reception, not realizing the potentials of the innovative gadget. Very rapidly, though, the capabilities of the iPad became better understood. iPads became more popular, gross revenues and net incomes surged and abruptly all of the leading computer and cellular companies wanted to get in on the action. The iPad and other tablets became the current must-have. Of course, Dell is wanting to obtain its piece of the pie. The Dell Streak 7 Wi-Fi Tablet is the consequence of that concern. We'll evaluate this unit in this article and give you the answers you need for you to determine if you should purchase or not.

It's a good device but watching movies is not a simple as when you download ipad movies. The first drawback on the Streak 7 tablet is the company that is making it. Quality and dependability are not trademarks of Dell's products. The company's customer service record is also on rather uneven ground. Based on customer feedback, it looks like once your warranty expires, you will be charged for calling customer support. You'll discover that maybe the upfront cost of this gadget is cheaper than most, you should factor in the long range cost of the company you're dealing with.

The tablet uses the Android OS (this version is affectionately referrend to as Froyo), which means that it should let you multitask between various programs pretty easily. You should be able to listen to Mp3s, keep your GPS data current, and be given notice of various things through the system's notification service without being pressured to keep any specific program open and running. Friends and business contacts will always be able to reach you on your tablet because it allows you to access your email accounts, including Gmail, very easily.

One of the good things about this Dell tablet that wasn't a part of the first iPad design is video chat. This Dell tablet, employing Qik software and a front-facing panel camera, provides video chat. The only catch is that the only ones you will be able to chat with are those who have the same Streak tablet or a compatible device. Thus, video chatting with those who own other platforms is not guaranteed. The built-in On Demand service furnished by Blockbuster is a positive for the Dell Streak 7 tablet. Admittedly, though, Blockbuster's recent troubles have made us think twice about recommending the tablet.

Reviews right now are few, but it does seem that most people are skeptical as to the reasons why this tablet was createdd. It isn't a universal gadget - it can't communicate between non Streak-compatible devices so its functionality is very limited. Still, a keen desire for a tablet computer coupled with a limited budget might make this Dell tablet an ideal way to acquaint yourself with the technology. Bearing in mind the earlier caveats, do consider your purchase cautiously before committing any money.
