Indian film industry has been blessed with some of the greatest talents ever in the world- be it actors, actresses, film directors or technicians. One of the talented yesteryear actresses of Hindi film industry, who charmed the public and became well known for her fringe is Sadhana Shivdasani. She has portrayed roles with perfection and extreme care that her fame was not affected by other actresses of those times. It is said that Sadhana always looked up to the talented actress Nutan and this admiration might be seen in her enactment also. Sadhana Shivdasani celebrates her birthday on September 2nd and she was born in a family where everybody liked movies. She is related to Babita, a Hindi film actress who is also the parent of Kareena and Karishma.
It was while doing her higher studies that she came on to the stage in some of the drama. Through Abana (1960), a Sindhi movie, she ventured into the world of films. She was spotted by the film director Subodh Mukherjee and was asked to perform the lead character in his movie Love In Simla opposite to debutant Joy Mukherjee, his son. The movie was directed by a debutant director, R K Nayyar, who later on married Sadhana. It was R K Nayyar who suggested Sadhana to have a fringe which became her trademark in the following years of her acting career.
Her image as one of the best actresses in '60s was because of the enactment in Ek Musafir Ek Hasina, Hum Dono and Parakh. Roles she performed in Woh Kaun Thi?, Anita and Saaya, brought her popularity and positive reviews. Aarzoo, Ek Phool Do Maali, Mere Mehboob and Inteqaam were some of her films, which had her captivating performances. For the Filmfare Best Actress Award, she was nominated twice - in 1964 (Woh Kaun Thi?) and in 1965 (Waqt).
Geeta Mera Naam featured her as an actress and a director in 1974. After her marriage with R K Nayyar, she made up her mind to stop acting. Sadhana-Nayyar couple did not have any children. Her connection with movies was not easily cut off. She participated actively in film making by the production company, the couple founded. She refused all the opportunities for acting in movies as those roles were not main characters.
She got a lot of opportunities to act along side many Bollywood actors, popular at that time. Sunil Dutt, Dev Anand, Rajendra Kumar, Shammi Kapoor and Raj Kapoor were some among those actors, whom she worked with. A few of her romantic films and suspense thrillers are considered to be classics in the movie industry. She is surely an actress who performs her roles with finesse and charm and has created a niche in the industry.
