Pianos Plano - Upright Or Grand Which One Is Right For You

By Maria Snider

Steinway is the name in pianos across the globe. Dallas, Fort Worth and pianos Plano have stores that sell many Steinways across the state. However, you can find many outstanding brands of pianos, in many store within this area.

You'll want to know what your own musical needs are, as well as, what room the piano will be in and how it will be played. The quality of sound (tone or voicing) and the volume are directly attributed to the size of the sounding board and the length of the strings. This means that the larger the piano, the better the sound.

If you have the available space and budget, you will be happier with a grand. Having said that, a high quality vertical is a better choice, than a low quality grand piano. The major differences between a vertical and a grand, other than the size, is the position of the soundboards and the responsiveness of its keys.

In the grand, the sounding board lays horizontal and in the upright they are vertical. This means the upright model may save space but, the keys of the grand will work with gravity instead of against it and therefore be more responsive to the players action.

You will want to consider the need and necessity for regular maintenance on your piano as well. This can be equated to taking your car in for a tune up and oil change. With regular use, all machines and instruments need to maintenance on a regular basis. For pianos, this means 3 steps should be implemented. Maintaining the pitch or tuning, maintaining the voicing or quality of the sound and making sure the touch mechanisms (keys, foot pedals, strings) are working smoothly.

Tuning is the adjustment of the piano's strings to the correct pitch. Voicing is the adjustment of the tone quality and is done by softening or hardening the hammers and adjusting various parts of the piano's keyboard mechanism. Every piano will need to be maintained to continue to achieve a bright tone. Due to the hammer felts becoming compacted against the strings with use. Pianos Plano can help you find the right piano for you and keep it going strong for year to come.
