Hints For Creating A Green Lantern Movie Uniform

By David Lawson

The Green Lantern movie costume has everybody talking about how best to recreate this intriguing outfit. In the movie it appears as if the suit is not an actual physical piece of clothing but rather is a body of green light emerging from the character's ring. The effect is a body hugging neon-like light that emphasizes his torso muscles.

A simple way to duplicate this look and feel is to wear a kelly green-shade turtle neck leotard with matching tights. There are some excellent websites promoting these items at very reasonable prices. An undershirt that sculpts the body with its formfitting material will show through the Lycra of the leotard. These can also be purchased online. The color must be as neon-like as possible to give the effect of light.

The character wears high boots that can be black or greenish. The basic neon green rubber boots available in discount stores would look quite effective. A more refined version is available on Amazon where there are a variety of spade-age Gothic looks to choose from.

The fictional character also wears a greenish-colored eye-mask. The artistically inclined can actually paint this onto their face around their eyes. This option is the most comfortable since there is no mask to hold onto the face. The recommended equipment for creating this mask are a small sponge that is wedge-shaped, and white, black and kelly green paint from any face painting product line.

An image of the mask should be placed nearby so that you can refer to it as much as you need to. Most of the mask drawing requires shading with the greenish-colored and black paint. The emerald color is drawn on first, then the black, and finally the white for emphasis. There are free online tutorials to refer to and learn the technique.

For a real mask one can make it cheaply from a 12x18 inch Foamies sheet available in craft stores. Other supplies include two rigid plastic Batman masks purchased from an inexpensive discount shop. Cut put a six inch wide rectangle from one end of the sheet. Preheat an over to 250 degrees F and place the Foamies piece onto the rack for a few minutes.

Once it is drooping remove the piece from the oven and place over a hard plastic Batman mask. Place a duplicate Batman mask over the foamies and press for a few minutes. Use a black Sharpie pen to race the eye-holes. Remove the Foamies and trim around the eye area. Using spirit gum put a few dabs onto the skin and place the mask over it.

The Green Lantern movie costume ring can be purchased from a well known children's toy store that has an exclusive on this item. If you want to save the money and make one, it can be made from different materials such as cardboard that has been spray painted green or carved from green wax. Online tutorials will provide clear cut videos that explain how to carve a ring out of wax.
