Working Life Of Movie Music Composers

By Melanie Adkins

Movie music composers make a wonderful combination of melody, rhythm, dynamics and lyrics to give color and depth to films. These tunes work as a way to convey the message of the shows to audiences. This special language first began with a piano in the black and white films and has slowly evolved to include huge orchestras in some cases. These melodies are merged with most genre movies like horror, war, fantasy, romance and comedy.

All melodies in films should have their own version of the syntax and vocabulary, and a composer will help to refine the syntax and add to the vocabulary of these melodies to suit the films mood and overall message conveyance. This will communicate with the audience to make the watching of the show a much greater experience.

A good composer has an important role to play just like other important people involved in the film. With a well placed melody an actor can convey a message properly in a film and have a huge impact on the viewer. It clarifies the important facts and helps to explain the main theme as the show progresses.

A determining factor in the overall mood of a film is the melodies that are played throughout, and a director will give instructions on what he wants conveyed and how he wants the audience to feel when watching the show. This makes the melody during a show a hugely important factor and many people may not realize just how important this factor is.

What Directors can't express by scenes is expressed by the soundtrack, and many movies have achieved good ratings mainly based on the soundtrack.

A good soundtrack can be more memorable than the actual film as it touches the heart of audience directly. So movie music composers put their all efforts in to making memorable tunes which have a lasting effect in the memory of the viewer.
