Graphic t tops have become very popular in the last couple of years with teens and young adult consumers. The pieces are usually cotton blends that have popular cartoon characters, cars, popular quotes, or other images on their fronts. Thanks to their increased sales, the items can be very pricey, which is why a lot creative consumers opt to create their own instead.
To create your own tees, begin by obtaining a few things that you'll require. These will include a plain colored shirt, a package of butcher paper, small scissors or exacto knife, and textile paint. The freezer paper, not the same as wax, can typically be found in a grocery store aisle by the plastic bags and aluminum foil. The textile paints can be bought at any hobby or craft store and come in a large array of colors.
Choose the particular image or design you want to transfer on your shirt first. You'll have to later cut it out on your own so be sure to not pick something difficult to do on your very first attempt at it. Trace or draw the image you decided on onto the freezer paper's matted side.
Next, attach the butcher paper to a cutting mat or stable surface and slowly cut the image out with the exacto knife or small scissors. You are creating a stencil so be sure and only cut out the necessary parts of the graphic. Make sure to save any 'inside pieces', like the center of numbers and other details, and set them aside for later.
Heat up an iron and then position the stencil over the tee shirt, waxy side down. When you have found the right spot, iron over the paper until all of the pieces have sealed to the shirt.
The last steps consist of painting over the stencils. Set the items aside once you're finished and then peel off the paper a few hours later.
