Unique Ways To Preserve Your Photos

By Eve Canipe

When we think about preserving our photography, scrapbooking and picture frames come to mind. But there are several ways to display photos throughout your home that go beyond the ordinary picture frames placed on a mantel.

Photo tables are one of the newest ways to create a unique photographic display. PrintBigPhoto.com, for example, is a company that creates these unique custom photo tables. You can use the tables as a coffee table or end table, and they come in a variety of colors. You can have one photo enlarged to cover the entire top or select several and design a photo collage.

You can also have a custom photo company create a photo collage that you can frame and place on the wall. One example of a collage is showing your child with a main picture in the middle surrounding by shots of various activities, such as soccer or gymnastics. Or perhaps you could place a photo of the whole family in the middle and add individual pictures around it. There are many color choices for the background, and you can create a smaller 8x10 collage or go as large as 20x24.

Because there are only so many spots where one can place smaller frames, why not enlarge your photos, frame them and place them on the wall. Some custom photo companies can enlarge a basic photo up to as much as 48x120. You could gather several of your photos and have them enlarged to a similar size to make a unique wall display. Another option is to have one very large photo as a centerpiece surrounding by several smaller photos.

If you or your children are artistic, why not take digital photos or use a scanner to preserve the artwork? The scans can be turned into photos in just about any size you want and then framed and displayed. Unlike the original artwork, the photos are less likely to fade over the years and now the work can be stored digitally, as well.

Other fun display options are placing photos on a dividing, three-panel floor screen. Some are made with slots for photos and still others are covered with ribbons where you can slide in photos and postcards. Digital photo frames are another fun idea, as they constantly rotate pictures and can be updated frequently. There are photo mugs, paperweights and plenty of other novelty photo items to display, as well.
