5) Zooming in & zooming out - To use the zoom tool hit control and also the plus sign "+" (Macintosh: command and the "+" symbol). To focus out press control and the minus symbol "-" (Macintosh: command and the "-" symbol).

6) Selecting simply the pixels with a layer - a good way to pick something that's within a transparent layer is to hit the command button (PC: control key) and then click the layer with the object inside the layers palette.
