The Floor Easel - the Ultimate Sales Tool

By Kylie Scott

When people are brainstorming sales and promotional tools, they often overlook what is arguably the best sales tool of them all - the floor easel. Even though we see these stands everywhere, all the time, we often overlook their importance, simply because they are doing their job so well. We notice what is being displayed, but not what is supporting the display.

Next time you're wandering through a mall, take a look around and see how the floor easel is put to good use all around you. A gourmet cafe will have one just outside the door advertising their lunchtime specials. Elsewhere, an upmarket boutique will have one displaying a poster of the latest trendy fashion brand. Unless you really stop and think about it, you don't realize how much the easel style influences your opinion about what you are likely to find inside the shop.

The floor easel outside the door compels you to go inside and look around. Once inside, another one will capture your attention and direct you towards a particular rack of clothing or brand of product. Whatever it is there for, it is what is displayed on the floor easel that will capture your attention first.

Why is the floor easel such an effective marketing tool? Several unique features make it so. Unlike a poster that is hung on the wall, a poster displayed on an easel uses three-dimensional space. This combined with its perfect height for catching the eye and its portability, which allows you to place it strategically, is what makes it work.

The portability of floor easels makes them perfect for businesses that need to take their advertising with them. Sales meetings, conventions and trade shows are just a few of the instances where these stands can easily and quickly turn a public place into a showcase for your presentation. Because they come in fold-able, collapsible and adjustable styles, they can be cared under the arm along with a briefcase.

There are so many uses for a decorative floor easel, it is hard to know where to begin. A lightweight, elegant easel makes a perfect stand for a menu just inside a gourmet restaurant. A more sturdy one can hold a floor copy of an expensive large format book open to a particularly beautiful photograph or drawing. These examples don't even begin to scratch the surface.

Now that you are aware of them, you will probably pay more attention to them when you see the around town. Take an extra minute to look more closely. Notice how the design of the stand has a subtle effect on your perception of the product or business it is there to promote. Take a quick look at the way it is constructed and how easily it can be folded up and stored away. Now that you have taken a good look, wouldn't you agree that you could find a hundred uses for a floor easel in your life?
