Everything Is In The Small things

By Kristen Clare

There are many tiny details that go into a wedding day. Often a bride could have spent 1 or 2 months picking out just the right gifts or the favourite flowers. She is going to have put so much effort into every last detail of the wedding that she will be overjoyed if her photographer manages to keep these on record.

There'll be a certain amount of down time as wedding photographers where you'll have to hang about for folks to arrive or be seated. You need to use this time to move round the room taking some close up detail shots of things in the locale. Some ideas to consider are close up shots of the wedding cake, floral displays or table centrepieces. These can make attractive additions to an album, and absent guests will appreciate having the ability to see everything the other guests saw.

Detail shots are also fantastic when covering the bride. If her dress has some truly complicated beading detail you wish to capture in a close up. An intense close up of the ring on her hand is a lovely image she will treasure.

Detail shots of traditional lucky items are also a big hit, so be sure to ask the bride to show you her something borrowed, her something blue, her something old and something new and take photographs of them.

A cameraman with a well trained eye will also cover details in the interchange between guests and the cheerful couple. Snapping a shot of the best man changing the groom's tie or a bridesmaid refastening the brides veil can be attractive reminders of the day. In a similar fashion, catching those intimate moments between the guests that nobody else might spot is also a wonderful opportunity. An intimate shot of the groom squeezing his brides hand during her father's speech, or her mum wiping away a tear as her girl takes her promises are memories the couple will treasure forever.
