Portrait painting is very vital category in painting, where the principal aim is to represent the visual fashion of the object. Apart from human beings, animals, home pets and even small objects which is used for sweet memory can be selected as the subject for a painting. In addition, portraits can also be shaped in other interpretation such as marble, bronze, photography, ivory, wood, ceramic, etching, lithography, and even video and digital media.

The term 'portrait painting' is also used to characterize the ideal painted portrait. Portraitists, who are experts in this profession create their work for public and private persons, and/or are inspired by admiration or affection for the subject. These are often regarded as very vital personal and family records, as well as remembrances. If an artist portrays his own image on canvas, then it is called a self-portrait.

Ideally, it have primarily memorialized the rich and strong. Being able to take the approach of a human being on canvas, using paint, is certainly a desired after completed for many new professionals. It can also be somewhat regarded as very challenging and more importantly demanding. Many beginners feeling very tough tones. Remember that outer covering comes in all variety of colors & textures, so there is no particular formula for mixing flesh tones in portrait painting. So there is need to experiment and practice, until you find the desired and right color mixtures for any particular subject. Remember one thing: never obtain any pre-mixed flesh colors. When mixing the colors, be very careful not to over mix, which can deaden a color.

Try and duplicate the colors and values in desired painting to create equal amount of balance. While painting the hair, avoid to try to paint every and each individual strand of hair. Propose for acceptance the hair as one object and then paint the lights and darks. Always paint the hair in the direction of the head.

While painting the backgrounds, do not make them too particular or too congested. This can draw attention focus away from your portrait. Add little bits of color where the shadow meets the light in your portraits. Portrait painting can be complicated and complicated, possibly even it will frustrating in the beginning. But never give up and keep practicing.
