Identify How The Red Ring Of Death Warranty Operates

By John V. Lamb

Many consumers have bought the original Xbox 360 only to find that there was a problem. It was three red flashing lights which were called the Red Ring of Death. This is why there was a Red Ring of Death warranty so that one can have a certain amount of time for the Xbox to be replaced. However, before doing so, one should properly diagnose the situation.

How does the Red Ring of Death warranty work? - The Red Ring of Death warranty is valid for three years from the time the Xbox was purchase. This only applies to the original models and not the recent ones. If one decides to open the console and fix the problem on their own, the warranty will be void.

There are several websites that have been set up to help people who want to fix the problem themselves. This is usually for people who are already savvy with technology but there are other people who prefer to be on the safe side and send it in during the warranty period. But, before one does this, there are ways to see if it is really necessary to get a new Xbox.

It is best to troubleshoot as much as possible before deciding that one has an issue. If a consumer does this it would save them time and money. For example, one might see four flashing red lights and assume that it refers to the Red Ring of Death. This is not the case as it is three red lights that one has to see not four. There are a few key things that one can watch for to make sure they have a problem.

Problems can occur if there is an issue with the power outlet in a particular room. This can be solved by using the console in another room. But, sometimes the issue might be the power supply. To tell the difference, one has to check the power supply light that is on the rectangular box. It may be green, red or unlit.

Three flashing red lights accompanying a green light means that there is a problem with the power outlet. If the color is red, the power supply is probably overheated. It would be best to turn off everything and let the Xbox and power supply cool for a while. This should be done in a well ventilated area.

The light may also be unlit and this can mean that the cables are not properly secure. One can double check to make sure that the cables are secure. If this does not solve the issue then the cables are at fault. The best way to deal with this is to inform the manufacturer of the situation. They should be able to help in figuring out the issue or they might just replace the cables.

There is a fee to get the Xbox 360 console fixed if the Red Ring of Death warranty has run its course. One may get it fixed at a repair shop or a friend that knows how to fix the console. On the other hand, a consumer may decide to fix the problem themselves. If one checks everything beforehand however, all of this may not be necessary.
