Digital Cameras - Where to Find Them

By Evan Quinby

If you're at all interested in photography, the day's going to come when you turn your attention to the world of digital equipment, and when you do, the first thing you might be wondering is where's the best place to locate good equipment. With so many brands, makes and models to choose from, it can be a little overwhelming. Some folks will head straight for various manufacturer's websites to buy direct, and this is a good place to start. You'll be able to get full details on the camera's specs, but oftentimes, manufacturer's websites are lacking in consumer reviews. Still, you can check to be certain the camera has all the features you're looking for, and manufacturer's websites tend to be heavy on the technical details, so you might find out a few things you didn't realize, or even know that you wanted or needed to know about them.

Before you rush right out and make a purchase from the manufacturer's site though, you should check a few other places. One excellent option, of course, is to head to your local camera shop, if you've got one in your town. The key advantage here is the knowledge of the store staff, and the ability to actually pick up and try the equipment on for size. You can learn so much by physically handling the equipment, and the store staff can tell you details, and offer tips you'll be hard pressed to find anyplace else.

So...spend some time with the camera you think you want and get to know how it feels in your hand. That's the single best way to make sure that if you purchase the model you've got your eye on, that you'll be happy with it when you get it home.

If you find a model that you like, you should first try to see whether you can source it cheaper online. Often well known stores such as Amazon.com will carry a similar make and model at a discount. They may even give you free shipping so your total outlay will be lower than if you had purchased it at your local store.

Don't get too hung up on price though. When shopping online you need to be wary and only deal with those sellers whose name you recognize. Otherwise you may think you have found the perfect digital camcorder camera at a great price only to find that you have lost your money and never received the camera. If it seems like too good a deal and you have never heard of the company you should probably give it a miss.
