Choosing A Photographer For Your Family

By Danny Curtis

Selecting a photographer for your family photos is an important undertaking. Good photographs are an investment in your family memories and not all photographers are created equal. I have included a few important criteria to review to assure you find the best photographer for your needs.

Primarily it is important to select a photographer who works or specializes in the kind of photos you are wanting. Hiring a wedding photographer to do child photos will no produce as good of results as hiring a child photographer who specialized in children. The same is true in reverse. Children and weddings each have unique challenges that require photographers to be familiar with this particular medium.

Anyone can press the button on an expensive camera and, given enough time, probably capture a good photo or two. A great deal of time and talent go into the computer processing and digital editing after the session is completed. Make sure you photographer is very well trained with the latest software and editing techniques.

When speaking with your potential photographers, make sure you ask them about extra fees for weekends and after hours. Your time frame is what you have to work with and you should expect your artist to accommodate that, however, review the restriction they have.

Review the photographers work and, if there right for you, expect to be move on an emotional level. Many of my clients tell me my work brings tears to there eyes. This emotional attachment is what I strive for so never settle for mediocrity.

Perhaps one of the most important characteristics is likeability. You will know after talking with a photographer on the phone if you like them or not. You will probably be taking direction from this person so make sure you like and respect them as an individual.

You can also ask for references and conduct interviews with past clients. Hiring a professional can be a lengthy process but a worthwhile on because many families keep the same photographer for many years. So put some effort into and choose the one that is right for you.
