By Janice Dylan

Audio visual is exactly what it says on the tin, it is a term to describe any work, study or equipment that presents information through both a sound component (audio) and a sight (visual) based component.

AV or Audio Visual technology and equipment is used a lot in our everyday life. For example if you watch your TV or view a video or DVD you are using AV technology. Using your PC, laptop, tablet pc, smart phone music player is another example or where AV technology is used in everyday life.

Lighting is another AV technology that is an integral part of our day to day life. It falls under the category of video or visual AV equipment, because without lighting you could not see the images that are being presented. The theatre is where you see the most AV lighting used.

As technology continues to grow, audio visual equipment is becoming standard in most industries. Most work places house an assortment of technical appliances that will be referred to as audio visual equipment. Nowadays, computers, presentation screens and projectors are the norm in schools, libraries and most offices. The first in audio visual equipment was television which presented information to the masses through moving pictures and sound. Nowadays a combination of equipment is used to achieve the same result.

You will also see AV technology used extensively in live entertainment. Theatres, art galleries and musician all use AV.

As the use of technology expands so does the audio visual industry, with employment growth over the last 3 years in both Europe and North America.
