Selecting The Right Wedding Photographer For Your Big Day

By Samuel Burns

Choosing the right wedding photographer can have a huge influence not only on the outcome of your wedding photographs but also on your wedding day. Seleceting wisely in a sea of options can be a real challenge and one I have seen many clients struggle with as confusion mounts and the ability to think clearly floats away.

Photographs you like. The single most important reason for picking a photographer should be because you like their work. The photos your photographer produces will be with you for life, as your memory fades your photos will become your document of your wedding day and liking what you see should surely be paramount.

Meet photographers. If you choose the right wedding photographer they will nestle smoothly into your day, a rapport goes a long way. Afterall, who wants to spend the most important day of their lives with someone whom there is no connection. By meeting with photographers you are better able to sense if you connect and feel comfortable around them, thus it is important to meet with photographers you are interested in to make sure you would feel comfortable involving them in your day.

The dreaded packages. Let the confusion begin! As I mentioned earlier it is important to love the style and images of the photographer you pick. Try not to be sold by extranious items such 4300 images, free 6x4's, and a new best friend. All the photos in the world will mean nothing if you hate them. Think carefully about whether you would rather despise 4300 photos or be proud to show off 400 pictures that you admire.

Asses what you really need. If you're techy and wish to print your own photos make sure you are going to receive high res files. Perhaps you would just like to send your images to friends on Facebook? Choose a photographer who will also supply low res digital files. For others you may just wish to own a wedding album and order prints direct from the photographer, if so choose a photographer who offers such options. By first analysing what you really need, making a decision amidst a shroud of options will be much easier.

Coverage. As a wedding photographer I feel some of the best photographs come from the moments in between the goings on. As such I feel it is important to select a photographer who is willing to offer all day coverage, from the moment your day begins to the time it ends. On your wedding day you will be busy, you will be running around and missing all the moments that make your day so special. Although you may not have thought you would want photographs of getting ready, imagine being able to look back and see your bridesmaids being themselves, your mum drinking her tea as her hair gets done, your husband to be skulling a beer to calm his nevesand uncle bob feeling aunty may up on the dancefloor. These photos will mean so much more than any posed shots ever will.

The $$$. First off I will assume you have been looking at photographers within your budget. Once you've narrowed down to a few photographers whos work you like don't be tempted to make the final decision based on price. Your memory about how much it cost will be forgotten long before your memory about how much you hate your wedding photos!
