Review of Jamorama

By Chris Lake

If you search the net for information on how to play guitar, then you're sure to come across some of the downloadable 'learn guitar' courses that are currently on the market. There are quite a few of these currently available, but some are better than others. Of all the courses I have seen, Jamorama is the best. Here I offer my honest and unbiased review of this course, to help you decide if you want to invest in it, in order to become a great guitar player.

Firstly, let's take a look at what Jamorama is, and what you get in the deal. Jamorama is a complete guitar course aimed primarily at beginners. It teaches all the essential techniques using a combination of written materials, and video demonstrations, to make learning even easier. The main bulk of the course is contained within 2 volumes of written lessons, spanning over 250 pages and covering 44 chapters. In these lessons you'll be taught different chords, and how to combine these into chord sequences. You'll learn how to strum rhythmically in different styles, enabling you to play a wide variety of guitar music quickly and easily. The written lessons are accompanied by video demonstrations - 148 in total - showing you exactly how to play what's being taught in the lessons.

As well as the video lessons, you also get 26 audio jam tracks which you can play along to, to help you practice what you've learned. This is a great way to experience what it's like to play in a band, and can really improve your playing. As well as the main course materials, you also get extra software for teaching you to read music, and train your ear. Both of these are invaluable skills, and once you've mastered them, you'll be able to play any piece of music just by hearing it once.

Using the course itself is dead easy. All the lessons are accessed via a neat software interface. All you have to do is choose weather you want to work from the beginners book, or the advanced book. Then, just select a lesson, and you'll be taken to the appropriate page. As you work through each lesson, simply click on the video or audio icon to open the corresponding file.

So that covers what's included, and how to use it, but will Jamorama actually make you a good guitarist? Well, to put it simply, yes. I believe it will make you into a great guitarist. As a guitar teacher myself, I know how beneficial the techniques taught in Jamorama can be, and the addition of video in the course makes it a really easy and effective way to learn if you can't afford, or just don't want, a private tutor. If you are prepared to put in the effort, and follow along with the course, I'm confident that you'll become an excellent guitarist. Jamorama is not only a very effective method of learning the guitar, but it is also thoroughly enjoyable, thanks to the jam tracks, and the bonus software.

To conclude, then, Jamorama is certainly one of the best ways to go about learning to play the guitar, and I recommend it highly. For what it costs, it's more than worth it, so if you want to learn guitar the easy way, you really ought to take a look at Jamorama.
