Qualities To Look For Before Engaging A Corporate Photographer

By Anne Odom

Corporate photography has become an essential service for firms of all kinds and sizes, but finding a good person for this job is not easy. Although, there are many expert photographers out there, the type of qualities that they need to have for corporate photography is quite different from the requirement for other forms of photography.

Organizations looking to appoint a corporate photographer have to assess the candidate's worth keeping in mind various factors, in order to be certain of their appropriateness for the company's need.

Versatility is the first thing that you should look for in a corporate photographer as he may have to deal with a variety of tasks like covering an event, photography for advertisements, or clicking appealing photos of the company's products. A good corporate photographer must always be ready to handle and do justice to all these diverse tasks.

Corporate events are one shot affairs that don't allow the photographer to plan his angles or to go for retakes, and so he cannot afford to lose his focus and concentration. A corporate event does not always happen by a fixed scheme and a laid back approach on part of the photographer will reflect badly on his work. Thus, a corporate photographer should be fast to react and should always stay alert to the circumstances and developments going on at the event.

It is also essential for a corporate photographer to be capable of performing under constraints and limitations and yet provide good photos. For example, in an indoor corporate event, he might have to do with insufficient light and deal with the crowd. Even in such unfavourable situations, he must be able to come up with impressive photographs.

Another important factor that must not be ignored is the photographer's work ethic and his personality. It is essential for a corporate photographer to involve himself in the interests of the firm. A good photographer should be able to put the staff in a comfortable state of mind, so that they don't stand cold before the camera when they are required to get a picture clicked with a smiling face at official or informal events of the company. In addition, the photographer has to be sociable and friendly, and must be a nice person to communicate and work with.

It is recommended to have a look at the photographer's portfolio and see a few samples, and not allow yourself to be prejudiced by his reputation in the market alone. It is advisable to arrange face-to-face interviews with the candidates to get an idea of their disposition and qualifications, and to judge how well they will live up to your expectations.
