Improve Your Smile With Cosmetic Dentists Scottsdale

By Tamika Armstrong

Not too many years ago, people with misshapen, crooked or stained teeth often simply lived with the issue. Today, however, accepting those flaws is absolutely unnecessary, because modern dentistry can often totally eliminate those problems, most of the time painlessly and affordably. Cosmetic dentists Scottsdale can reshape your smile, covering or removing those dental imperfections.

By far, the most common choice for patients is tooth whitening. Nearly all of us experience tooth staining at some point, and the culprit is often coffee, tea or tobacco. Over-the-counter bleaching products are widely available, but are not necessarily a good choice for everyone. The dentist, however, makes a custom-fit mold, and then creates trays for both lower and upper teeth.

The whitening gel is placed in the trays, and usually worn for a period of hours. Most of the time patients begin this regimen in the dental office, but can successfully complete the process at home. The gel contains a kind of bleach which interacts with the enamel, and erases stains, often improving the smile greatly. This process works well for many people, but some patient's stains simply will not bleach away, and those individuals may be candidates for veneers.

Veneers are thin layers of a porcelain or plastic composite, color-matched and fitted to individual teeth. They are glued on permanently. Veneers are not only excellent for covering deeply ingrained stains, but are often used to correct mildly crooked teeth by filing down the edges, and then covering over the flaws. They should last at least a decade, and often longer.

Dental bonding is a process similar to veneers in some ways. It works well to fill in large gaps between teeth, or to rebuild cracked or broken-off portions of healthy teeth. The dentist pre-treats the affected area, and then methodically rebuilds it with a composite-based resin, often drying and hardening the work with a laser tool. The final product is often indistinguishable from the other teeth.

Crowns and bridges are not strictly considered cosmetic, but replacing lost front teeth can be very important. Even teeth that have been repaired in the past can appear less than attractive, and a new crown can hide the flaws. Bridges are created to connect solidly with each side of a missing tooth, eliminating the need for dentures or other less appealing solutions.

When long-term correction is needed to fix crooked teeth, cosmetic dentists Scottsdale also work with braces. In cases where gum disease has taken a severe toll, the surrounding area can be built back up, and in instances where there is too much of the gums covering the teeth, the tissue can be reduced. With such a wide variety of treatments available today, there is no reason to live with the kind of personal distress that can be caused by misshapen, stained or missing teeth.
