As soon as marriage proposal is accepted, preparing for this important event starts in earnest. There are many fine points that have to be harmonized for a day that goes smoothly. Wedding invites are perhaps a good place to start as these need to go out as other arrangements are finalized.

Before picking out which paper they will be printed on, decide on the design be guided by this. The design of the invitations will lay out or hint at the atmosphere of the ceremony, as it is the first thing about imminent event your guests will encounter.

Choose one according to the kind of event you are planning for. If you are having a more formal or black-tie ceremony, keep the cards elegant and understated. One option is card stock which is inexpensive and appealing, more so if you go for grade one card stock paper that comes with a smooth finish, vellum, linen and may other finishing kinds of finishing. Go for paper that is not more than 300 grams if you will be posting many invitations as this need only one stamp to send.

Another option is to get blank wedding invitations that one personalizes with details and graphics. This can even be done on a computer. The blanks come in all colors to that they can be coordinated with the main colors of the wedding. They also come in neutral colors like white, silver grey and gold. Envelopes for the cards are also provided to match the invitations. This is a very cost-effective option for those on a tight budget as they are made using card stock paper which is quite inexpensive compared to premium paper.

You may also decide to go all out and go for the unusual by using rarely used kinds of paper; patterned paper, embossed paper, decorative paper and even scrapbooking paper can be used. There are hundreds types of paper that can be used to make wedding invitation cards.
