Many Horror Movies Online To Scare Everyone

By Adriana Noton

When it comes to independent films, the one genre that has led the way is horror. From the late fifties right up to today, many filmmakers have strayed away from the big studios and pushed the boundaries, and you can find many of these horror movies online nowadays. The internet has become the best source for scary titles, whether they be the big screen blockbusters or those more obscure titles you cannot even find in video stores.

The genre is as old as cinema itself, with many of the first films ever produced being horrors. Many of these historically relevant productions like Nosferatu are over a hundred years old and are now free to the public domain. For many years of silent movie production, horrors were very popular, but not nearly as popular as when sound came into the films, and gave us screams.

For two decades there were many horrors movie made and by the 1950's there were studios dedicated to making this genre only, and some of the great legends of cinema were born. Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolfman and so many other monsters and creatures showed up on the big screen, and you can find these classic horror movies online.

Drive-Ins became very popular in America around this time, and so began an avalanche of B-movie titles, the most popular being science fiction or horror, or a combination of the two. These cult classics can be found across the net, and can make for a great night of entertainment.

Horror became serious business in the sixties and a master of the craft was Alfred Hitchcock. You can find many of Hitchcock's horror movies online like The Birds and Psycho. And it was another fright movie master in the late sixties who would influence a generation, George Romero, with his zombie film, Night Of The Living Dead.

Today zombies are big business. There have been major studio re-makes, video games, and even home-video fan versions. Fans loved them so much, that many of these home-videos are actually pretty good, and has even led to professional careers for many of the make-up artists, special effects artists and directors who made them.

With many of these fan-made films the focus was on the gore, or special make-up effects. This was a trend that started in the 1970's when the genre peaked for the first time. Low budget scary films filled cinemas like the cult Texas Chainsaw Massacre, as did studio films like The Exorcist and Jaws.

It was a time that started the scary franchise, and sequel after sequel began to appear. Friday the Thirteenth, Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street are just three examples of series that had a number of follow-ons and spin-offs. More recently there has been a trend to remake a number of these movies too for a new audience. Other movies like When A Stranger Calls and Amityville Horror have also been re-produced lately.

The past two decades has seen horror continue to grow, and find new influences from around the world, especially from Asia, and many Hollywood scary films are remakes of Japanese ones. On the net you can find the original ones too, and see the source of some of those scary moments.
