While it is located in a great, livable place, Niteroi just isn't experiencing the economic surge of hotels and shopping malls that can be found in other areas such as Barra da Tijuca. Though it can be reiterated that it is still a nice reasonably priced place to live. It won't necessarily be the life that you'd experience in Copacabana and Ipanema, but you could certainly visit those locations on the weekend.
