Learn Guitar Scales To Achieve Solo Recognition

By Jonathan Hart

Starting out on the road to master the guitar is a wonderful adventure, and can lead to times of great enjoyment. However, it is important to know the basics of course and, in this regard, it is fundamental to learn guitar scales.

Understanding the scale: There are many different scales, each of which is a collection of notes to be played in sequence, in a descending or ascending order. With so many, each has its own style and qualities of course, whilst there are many patterns and characteristics.

They are important: Learning them does not make for the most riveting of entertainment. However, the importance of understanding them cannot be understated. They are the basics to good performance but, more than this, bring control to the fingers and hands and provide technical expertise.

A significant number: This short article does not have the time or space to go into each scale in any detail however, it can provide a few suggestions as to how they can best be practiced. Followed and built on, they should provide an excellent foundation for success.

The most important thing of all is to find somewhere quiet. Disruption is not good where concentration is so highly needed after all. This established, working on the basics for a good half hour, or longer, should it take that long to move from note to note without pausing.

Once this most basic function has been perfected, mixing things up is possible. It is a dull process as already mentioned but, by playing things backwards or in certain groups can help a little. Challenging oneself is what it is all about after all.

Jamming in a group is great but, the real virtue of this wonderful instrument is of course in the solo performance. With this in mind, looking to learn guitar scales well, will set the foundation for these to be something very good; possibly more than this.
