By Kerry Collins

If you have a digital camera you will be wise to keep it in good working order. Regular cleaning of your camera is the best way to ensure that the camera lasts a long time and it will also mean that photos look better. But you do have to be very careful when you are cleaning a digital camera because otherwise you could end up causing damage to it.

What follows are just a few tips for how to clean a digital camera.

- To clean the outside of the digital camera you are going to need a lint-free cloth. Lint is a fabric made up of twisted fibres and this can be damaging to your camera if you try to clean with it. That is why it is very important to make sure that the cloth you use is lint free. You could even buy a special cloth that has actually been made for cleaning digital cameras.

- You can dislodge any particles that get caught in the lens by using a soft brush.

- Touching the lens or screen with anything can cause damage so a possible way to clean these is to use canned air although you need to be careful that the can is not to near the camera as it could force dust into areas where it shouldn't go. There are some people who would advise against using canned air so you really will have to be careful.

- It is never a good idea to clean the sensor with a cloth as this could damage the camera. Go for lens cleaner instead if you can't get rid of some marks with the canned air. You should use a special lens tissue if you need to get rid of s stubborn stain.

- Another way to clean the screen and the lens is with a special cleaning pen that you can buy.
