Building a Music Composer Website

By James Deacon

If you are a music composer, one of the best ways to help your career is to establish a good internet presence. The world of media production is quickly changing, and more work is being done over the web than ever. To take advantage of all this activity you need to promote yourself as a composer on the internet, but in order to do this, you need to have a proper website.

There are plenty of free sites out there that will let you upload and even sell your music online. However, these are easy to setup and everyone has access to them. Sound good, but keep in mind that everyone knows this. To have your own professional website makes an impression and tells people that you are serious about being a composer. It proves right out of the gate that you are willing to do more than just upload your music to a free site.

So how do you get this type of professionalism? Unlike previous times, you are not forced to pay a web designer to build and maintain a site that you have little control over. It is now easier than ever to make your own website and be able to update it whenever you please.

The best way to do this is to use a free content management system. There are a few different ones available but they will all basically provide you with the framework of a website that you can modify and add content to. Most of them have different themes that you can choose for the layout of the site, and you can tweak these to make yourself a unique, personal site.

One of the most important things for a music composer website is to have samples of you music in a prominent location. If you are a composer, it is your music that people are interested in. Film composers may want to have samples of their music in films to show that aspect of their work. The important thing is to have all of these in an easy to find location so people don't get frustrated and abandon your page.

The title of your site should contain your name so that when people search for you in search engines they end up at your site, and you should try to get links coming into your site using your name in order to help this. When you do have your own site coming up under your name in search engines it makes a good impression and will help you get more serious music composing work.

Having a website is crucial for anyone going into a media production or music composition field. It is going to be your best tool for promoting yourself and maybe even selling your own music. Make sure that you put the time into developing a great website to give yourself the best possible chance at succeeding.
