It's one of the prettiest urban parks in the city of Calgary. It is the hub of the most exciting and the largest events and festivals. And it's definitely a wonderful place of escape from the hustles and bustles of the town life. Prince's Island Park really is a place to be.
Prince's Island Park is the urban park in Calgary that's developed on an island on the Bow River. It is immediately found at the north of Downtown Calgary. Named after the founder of the Eau Claire Lumber Mill, Peter Anthony Prince, this park was built on the land donated by the their family. It is often mistakenly known as the "Princess Island Park".
The island park has a surface of 20 hectares and is linked by three bridges to Eau Claire, Downtown Calgary and Commemorative Drive and Crescent Heights community. Prince's Island Park is part of the fantastic trail and hiking trail system of the Bow River. A wetland environment can be seen at the eastern end of the island and an attractive landscaped area at the southern arm. A number of geese and mallard ducks can be seen playing and swimming around the island park.
Prince's Island Park is also the home of the ChevronTexaco Learning Pathway. It is an environmental educational route on the east end of the park. It winds around a built wetland that is designed to treat stormwater before entering back to the Bow River. ChevronTexaco is a superb path that provides an environmental, instructional and recreational resource for people that connects them with nature in a very interactive way.
Go there for a picnic, or watch an event. Or perhaps enjoy the river and their numerous playgrounds and endless pathways. Have a different experience during summer days or winter days. Whatsoever you want to do or would love to do, you will certainly find Prince's Island Park a lovely home and a great escape in the town.
