Explore The Colorful Power Of Kristopher Naeger Art

By Cathy Mercer

Kristopher Naeger art is vibrant and appealing. He paints strong images that promote rich colors and design. To experience it means to see more than strong colors, but powerful ones.

Naeger has lived, painted, and exhibited in New Orleans, France, Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Costa Rica. Regardless of where he is, his distinctive colors and compositions remain. He and his family are survivors of Katrina, which affected his New Orleans studio. The water came right to its doorstep. Nevertheless, he has continued to work.

There are several series displayed on Kristopher's website. Within each, there is a wonderful burst of design and colors that make his work distinctive. Abstracts, Cityscapes and Abstract Flowers are the simple names he has chosen, but the names give no hint to the cheerful work in each of the collections. His personal style must be seen to appreciate the varied techniques and ideas he incorporates.

Cityscapes is a series of five sets of building scenes. The first set includes one or two buildings in each painting, with vivid skies behind. Moving from one set to next, the amount of buildings increases as does the detail. The skies become more varied and complex. It seems as if the artist's inspiration grew with each painting and the enjoyment resulted in city blocks that are more and more congested and alive.

There are two series of entitled Abstracts. The first includes studies of line and movement with broad strokes of bold acrylics. There is much complexity in this set, though not evident at first glance. It takes some time to realize that there are numerous patterns and details throughout. The second moves away from linear constructions to motifs that are highly repetitive. These resemble a corn cob or a bee hive. The shapes are crowded closely together, encouraging contemplation and looking carefully.

The Abstract Flowers set includes four paintings of popular flowers. A white stalk, reminiscent of gladiolas, daisies, a fuchsia and a sunflower make up the various compositions. Each bloom has its own space, and the huge size fills it. Not quiet or reserved by any measure, these are lovely, fun and demanding your attention.

Naeger invites guests into his studios via the Internet. Displaying his work areas is one way that he encourages visitors to understand his work process. Each studio is constructed differently, as the locations are far from each other. But, the materials are similar in all spaces. Many, many brightly colored paints, finished and unfinished canvases, framed art on all the walls, and the casual chair plus filled tabletops pretty much describes what you see. A glimpse into his artistic flair is glimpsed if you look at his signature banners. His writing hand displays crisp, stylish letters, and that is one huge key to his personality.

The power of Kristopher Naeger art is seen in his graphic design sensibility and totally bold color choices. There is unity in his body of work that is distinctive. Enjoying glimpses of it online is a refreshing experience.
